Nation will fight war against terrorism with unity: Taseer
* Governor says Pakistan, Bangladesh share similar values
LAHORE: We will eliminate terrorism from the country as the nation has resolved to fight it with unity, Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer told a delegation from the National Defence University (NDU) on Tuesday. The 140-member delegation from NDU Islamabad had called on him at the Governor's House.
He said President Asif Ali Zardari had protected the future of Pakistan through his vision and promoted the culture of harmony, patience and reconciliation. He said the Pakistan Army was one of the best armies in the world and would overcome the challenge of terrorism with support from the people. The governor said the country was moving towards economic stability and Kerry-Lugar legislation would help the country improve education, social and health sectors, he added.
Similar values: Separately, talking to Bangladeshi High Commissioner in Pakistan Yasmeen Murshed, Taseer said Pakistan and Bangladesh shared similar deep-rooted religious, cultural and political values. Speaking on the occasion, Taseer said it was commendable that democracy had taken root in Pakistan and Bangladesh. The governor said reforms introduced in both the countries regarding the empowerment of women and welfare of the underprivileged had been successful. The Bangladesh high commissioner said goodwill among the people of both the countries was increasing. Murshed said women constituted a large part of the workforce in the country, which had also fuelled the rapid development of the textile industry in Bangladesh.
